梶原徳典 (カジワラトクノリ)

 

1975年広島生まれ。小学校5年からトロンボーンを始める。

高校卒業後1995年に渡米、シカゴのChicago Musical College at Roosevelt Universityで元レイ・チャールズ楽団のMayo Tiana氏に師事、2000年、学士号を取得。2002年からニューヨークのManhattan School of MusicでトロンボーンをSteve Turre氏に師事、2004年、修士号を取得。

 

Manhattan School of Musicを卒業後、ニューヨークを拠点にサルサ、ジャズ界で活動。今までの共演者にBebo Valdés, Chucho Valdés, Eddie Palmieri, Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz, Oscar D’Leon, Jimmy Sabater, Arturo O’Farrill & The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Chico O’Farrill Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra, Jimmy Heath Big Band, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Mambo Legends Orchestra, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, La Tipica 73, Jimmy Bosch, Tito Puente Jr, Tito Rodriguez Jr, Mingus Big Band, Ray Charles Orchestra, Curtis Brothersなど。

 

Arturo O'Farrill and The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Chico O'farrell and Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra, Mambo Legends Orchestra, Eddie Palmieri, Ray Viera, Curtis Brothers, John Yao and His 17-piece Instrumentのバンドなどでレコーディングに参加。

 

2014年から神戸在住のトランペット広瀬未来、名古屋在住のドラム倉田大輔と共にピアノに中島徹、ベースに坂田ブンテイ、パーカッションに荒川”B”拓哉を迎えたNYスタイルのラテンジャズ、サルサを中心としたグループ"Conjunto Santos”を率いている。

 

2018年3月を持ってニューヨークを離れ日本へ帰国。福岡に拠点を移し音楽活動を開始。

Tokunori “Kaji” Kajiwara a Native of Japan, was born in 1975.

Kaji Started playing trombone when he was 5th grade. After graduating High School, Kaji came to The US on January 6th, 1995.

He studied at the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University. During this period, he studied Jazz trombone with Mayo Tiana, former trombone player with Ray Charles Orchestra. He graduated in May of 2000 with Bachelor’s Degree in jazz trombone performance with Dean’s Awards, and the went back to Japan.

 

May of 2002, he got a scholarship from the Manhattan School of Music, and moved to New York City. At the MSM, he studied Jazz trombone under Steve Turre, and joined Bobby Sanabria’s Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra and also performed with the MSM Jazz Orchestra and Concert Jazz Band directed by Justin DiCioccio. He graduated in 2004 with a Masters Degree in jazz trombone performance.

 

Since graduating MSM, he has been very active in the New York City music scene. He has toured with legendary Cuban pianist Bebo Valdes in Spain, with Eddie Palmieri in Japan, with Arturo O’Farrill’s ALJO in Greece, Switzerland, Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan and U.S., Spanish Harlem Orchestra in U.S., Jimmy Bosch in Europe and has performed with McCoy Tyner, Paquito D’Rivera, Steve Turre, Arturo O’Farrill, Eddie Palmieri, Andy Gonzalez, Luis Bonilla, Edy Martinez, David Sanchez, Dave Valentin, Nicky Marrero, Albita, Oscar Brown Jr., Jerry “the Iceman” Butler, the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, the Mingus Big Band, Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, The Mambo Legends Orchestra (formerly known as Tito Puente Orchestra), Ray Charles Orchestra, Mike Longo Big Band, Frank Lacy’s Vibe Tribe, and Brooklyn Big Band.

 

Kaji participated in recordings of Eddie Palmieri, Mambo Legends Orchestra, Arturo O’Farrill and Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, John Yao and His 17-Piece Instrument, Papo Pepin and Ray Viera

 

March 2018, Kaji moved back to Japan and started his activities based in Fukuoka.
